A little Wahoo history
Wahoo sits along Wahoo Creek in eastern Nebraska, about 37 driving miles from Omaha. Settlers founded the town in 1870, and Czech, German and Scandinavian families built much of it. Its name comes from the eastern wahoo, a shrub that grew along the creek; the Dakota word means “arrow wood.” Today Wahoo is the county seat of Saunders County, with about 4,800 neighbors. Couples who choose our Wahoo wedding venue join a town with real history. Famous names grew up here, including Nobel Prize geneticist George Beadle, baseball Hall of Famer “Wahoo Sam” Crawford and film producer Darryl F. Zanuck, who co-founded Twentieth Century Fox. For years, Wahoo was even the “home office” for the Top Ten List on David Letterman’s Late Show.
